Good Breakups?

I was thinking on the train one day and a very interesting idea occurred to me. We've all witnessed how devastating breakups can be for both parties. Looking at Ted (from How I Met Your Mother), the girls who he has been with in serious relationships hurt him the most when it was time to terminate the relationship. Why do relationships come to an end? It is most likely because there isn't much excitement and chemistry anymore because as time passes, people get bored of old things.

So here is what I think, break ups don't have to suck! What if there was a thing called a good break up? Let's say for example you've been going out with someone for a couple of months and you are both crazy for each other. Now let's stop for a second and think about it. Wouldn't it be better to break up the relationship when things are going well? IF both parties can come to realize that things are going well and want to put things on hold for the future, wouldn't that be something good? After all, not many people get back together with an ex because the breakup was probably bad. However, if the break up was on a good note, like I mentioned, if they ever wanted to get back together, why the hell not?

My theory is, have good breakups. This way, you'll have plenty of options when you're finally ready to settle down. (in theory)
