Community Series CANCELED

 

Community has finally been officially axed by NBC. After a long short 5 seasons, the critically acclaimed sitcom comedy series has finally aired its last episode. The first season was extremely well written. The show was very entertaining because despite its low budget, it was able to create unique and interesting episodes. I absolutely loved the strong cast of nine main characters. Most shows don't go this far into developing such a large main cast, but this one does. Each character has his or her own unique and interesting story. 

After the 3rd season, however, the show writer Dan Harmon was no longer part of the show and the effects were disastrous. While seasons 1-3 had 20 episodes each, season 4 only had 13 episodes. What's worse was that NBC decided to keep delaying the show until February instead of releasing the show in the fall. Perhaps what was really bad was how the show writers botched Chase's character so much that the actor himself became fed up with the show and quit. The way he left the show left a bad taste in everyone's mouth. They wrote him out of the show saying he died. You can tell even the cast themselves didn't give a shit because the dynamics between the cast has changed. After Chase's departure, in the final season Troy also leaves mid-season. It was definitely hard to watch. The original cast members were replenished by newcomers that became regular "important" casts that were not replaceable. 

Lastly, I do think the show ended when it should. After the gang graduated from Greendale at the end of season 4, for some unknown reason they all continued to hang out at the community college. At this point, the show just wasn't going anywhere plot-wise and it was time to truly time to wrap things up.

In honor of the show, let's list some of its most epic episodes:

1. Modern Warfare S1E23: The entire school turns into a paintball war zone. The production level and the seriousness levels of the episode turns this into one of the best critically acclaimed episodes of the year.

2. Epidemiology S2E6: A Halloween themed special, the school becomes infected with "zombie-like" symptoms and the gang has to fight their way out.

3. Abed's Uncontrollable Christmas S2E11: This is first of the uniquely created episodes. The cast members are displayed as Christmas characters in a Rudolf the reindeer style animation.

4. Fistful of Paintballs S2E23-24: Season 2 season finale is a two part paintball war.

5. Digital Exploration of Interior Design S3E13-14: Two part story of how the school turns into a pillow fight war zone.

6. Digital Estate Planning S3E20: An 8-bit animated game episode, the characters voice over their characters as they fight their way into a platform game. It is by far, my favorite episode of the series.

7. Geothermal Escapism S5E5: The school becomes a engulfed in imaginary lava and the last person standing wins a monetary reward.

8. G.I. Jeff S5E11: Jeff Winger is a G.I. Joe in this episode and fights his way through Cobra. Classic G.I. Joe animation and hilarity ensues.

Overall, I think this series deserves way more recognition than it has. The stories in each episode is a fantastic adventure you cannot see elsewhere. Sure, the ratings were sub par and was in decline over the years, but the loyal fans of the series understand how good the series was. I highly recommend this series to anyone who is able to dream big or has imagination.

How I Met Your Mother - Series Finale

It truly is an end of an era. How I Met Your Mother (HIMYM) has finally come to an end after nine long seasons. I wasn’t there when the journey began, I was late to join the bandwagon. I usually don’t watch sitcoms because they usually aren’t appealing. Since so many of my friends watched this series, I gave it a shot and it was one of those few shows that I stuck with through these years. The series was appealing in the sense it had a linear progression while seeding a lot of unanswered mysteries. However, the general consensus was the story was dragging out way too long and everyone wanted to see the ending. I felt there were way too many filler episodes that did not progress the plotline any further these last few seasons. I guess that’s part of what’s to be expected from a sitcom series. I didn’t see the ending the night it came out, unfortunately. By the time it was the next day, I had already been spoiled by the newsfeeds and news articles on the internet.

I watched the hour finale last night and it was bittersweet. It felt like the story fell short because they were setting up Barney and Robin’s webbing for an entire season, only for them to get divorced shortly afterward. The reason why they broke up wasn’t convincing to me. The whole thing about Barney never going to settle down because he’s just a player didn’t resonate too well with me. It was depressing to see him still chasing after twenty year olds in his forties. It was not until he became a father did he grow up. Again, I thought that transition did not go smoothly. I didn’t buy it.

I enjoyed Ted and the fated mother’s meeting. The entire scene was perfect. Only those who have seen the entire 9th season would know what they were talking about when the two of them met. It was such a perfect meeting between Ted and Tracy. However, the happy scenes did not last long enough for the audience to enjoy. As a viewer, the show built up a great deal of character development for the mother. It made us like her. We believed that she was perfect for Ted and that Robin was finally out of the picture. After they gone through the entire sequence of making a statement about how Ted wasn't right for Robin, we were certain that Robin will never be an afterthought. No good things last in life, and eventually the mother died. That was a gruesome blow to us all because we were all so emotionally invested in her and it was hard to see her cruel fate. But it wasn’t enough that she died, the writers decided to put Ted and Robin together at the end. I don’t know, it just felt like a slap in the face. Wasn’t the purpose of the show about the mother? Why did it end on such a low note? For what reason did they deny all of us of a happy ending? For what it’s worth, the show creators had already filmed the ending nine years ago when the show was first created. At least they had a plan going into the show, unlike some that just go on and on with no end. But like many others, I felt the show would've been perfect if it ended after they met. The extra with the passing of the mother and him going to find Robin was extra information nobody wanted to see.

Ghost Whisperer

Recently I've come across a new (old) show called Ghost Whisperer. The show is about how Melinda Gordon (portrayed by Jennifer Love Hewitt) helps ghosts and their family members cope with their deaths with her special ability to see and talk to ghosts. The plot so far is not continuous, meaning each episode has very little to do with the next one. It is sort of like ghost-of-the-week kind of thing. Each episode is somewhat similar, she would encounter a troubled spirit and tries to find out why they are still walking the Earth, followed by trying to solve the spirit's problems. The show is sometimes spooky because they do cheap scare tactics but other than that it's pretty normal.

I really enjoy watching this show. JLH's character is amazing and one can't help but fall in love with her. Melinda is a store owner by her day job but she spends most of her time helping others. Her kindness is an admirable trait and simply takes away my angry emotions. As you may or may not know, I am irritated easily and rage at quite a lot of trivial things. Right now I'm always watching an episode before I go to sleep because it makes me calm and it makes me sleep better at night. I don't know what it is, perhaps it's her great smile or something? Just looking at her makes you go all giggly and happy inside xD. Honestly speaking it's the sex appeal of the show that earns its ratings. JLH looks incredible each episode and no one cares even if the episode was poorly constructed.

When I was looking up the show I found out they canceled it this year. Apparently 7 million viewers per episode wasn't enough for CBS to renew the series. I suppose it had a good run--fanboys kept the ratings high for five seasons.

This Season

This is quite a big season of television (at least for me). I don't remember the last time I followed so many different television series at any given time. Contains a lot of spoilers.

Smallville Season 9 (CW11)

This series has been going downhill ever since Kristin Kreuk and Michael Rosenbaum left the show back in season 7. Why the hell do I still watch it? Probably to see how much they can mess up the show even more. The problem with series like these is that the longer the show goes on, the more ridiculous the story lines become. The producers have to deal with actor's contracts and other changes and thus the story line must be altered to meet those needs.

What happened this season? Tess Mercer (who?) released a bunch of Kandorians (Kryptonians) from an orb and they threatened to take over the Earth. Everything leads to an epic finale where our hero Clark must clash against a ton of other super powered Kryptonians but what happens? Spoiler: not too much. It was such a bad ending to the story arc.


Supernatural Season 5 (CW11)

I absolutely love this series. Even though season 1 was definitely the best season, I still follow this one every week as it airs on Thursdays. What the hell do you watch this show for, there aren't even any hot female leads! That's true--however being a horror fan, this show has been quite captivating. Not only is it action packed, but there's a lot of comical moments here and there.

Season 5 is about how Sam and Dean goes about fixing the Apocalypse. They released Lucifer from hell and go around trying to how to fix the current situation. In the season finale, the inevitable fight between Michael and Lucifer looks like it was going to happen, but only to be foiled by the two brothers. The legendary fight was stopped and the planet is saved, but only at the cost of one brother. I have to say the season finale was disappointing to say the very least. I was expecting a lot more action and special effects but I guess that was too much to ask for in 45 minutes.

How I Met Your Mother Season 5 (CBS)

Although this series is in season 5, I've only really begun to start watching this series this season. A bunch of my friends told me it is a great show and indeed it is. Even though the story sidetracks often, most viewers prefer it that way because the show would be over once it gets to the part when Ted finally reveals who the mother is. I can't really compare this season with the others because I haven't watched the earlier ones yet. Season 5 was pretty good and provided a lot of laughs.



Lost (ABC)

Funny thing about this show is that when it came out I didn't watch the first season (from what I heard was the best season). I started watching it sometime during season 2 and stopped watching it further because the show shifted to 10 PM for season 3 (I used to sleep early back then).

So whats up with season 6, the final season? Well I caught the retrospective episode before season 6 began and they pretty much summed up all of the important parts of the plot in 2 hours. So with my knowledge of season 2 and 2 hours of summary, I caught up. Season 6 was very exciting. Every episode built more tension and kept me wanting for more. Although the writers are good at creating cliffhangers, they definitely are not good at creating an ending. The ending was very disappointing because it left too many questions unsolved. After watching the 2.5 hour series finale I was still confused and did not know what happened. Hell, not even the actors really know what happened. So what is Lost? Don't expect to really understand anything. The show is just a really cool joyride but lacks explanations.

New Series

Community (NBC)

This show is spectacular. There are seven main characters and the story revolves around the lives of seven community college students. The show makes fun of community colleges in general and how the characters behave. I can't really explain the style of the comedy. You just need to watch it to get it. I highly recommend this series!






Modern Family (ABC)

Another new comedy series, this one is on ABC. The cast is even bigger than Community; seems like the new trend is to include as many characters as possible. It follows the lives of three typical families: a straight couple with 3 kids, a gay couple with an adopted child, and a hot mom married to a rich old guy. I haven't watched the entire season as of yet, I've only seen a couple of episodes here and there. I don't think it is as funny as Community but I'll give it a shot.






V (ABC)

V is an annoying name for a TV series. It's so difficult to search for images because V is so short. As I was watching Lost, the premier of this show caught my eye and I downloaded all of the episodes. I did not have the chance to watch it yet but it looks like a good series.




The Vampire Diaries (CW11)

I am by no means a fan of the recent trend of vampire shows/movies. Hell, I didn't even watch the Twilight movies. So why the hell am I watching this? It just so happens that this show is on the same night as Supernatural, just preceding the show. So I decided to give it a shot. The show is alright I suppose, it's pretty complicated and stuff. But in short, it's main story is about how two brothers compete for the love of this one girl. Thank goodness the cast is good looking or else I wouldn't even bother watching this.






I haven't seen any of the previous seasons but when I saw the lineup for this season, I decided to watch it. A lot of eye candy on this season :Q. Nicole Scherzinger, Pamela Anderson, Erin Andrews, etc. From the beginning of the season, I've already knew who was going to win it all. Nicole Scherzinger, the Pussycat Doll, won this season. She is an amazing performer and dancing probably comes naturally to her. There were also some really bad people on this season. They had Buzz Aldrin, the 80 year old retired astronaut on the show. Why bother getting him on the show? They also had Kate Gosslin (who?) and she was just plain bad. But this season was worth watching just because of Nicole Scherzinger. Yep.

Season 4 Ep 7

Watch this episode, I found it hilarious and yet I realize I behave in a similar manner. Malcolm is a genius but all the people around him are complete morons so he complains all the time about everything. One day he decides to keep his mouth shut and just not say anything but the result of his actions (or lack of actions rather) is quite serious. Maybe I should start actually think about what I say before I actually say it... because it's not going so well.





Resident Evil Degeneration was awesome. I've never played any of the video games of its series but watching this movie still made sense. The storyline is exciting (in my opinion) and the characters were really well created. You can feel their fear at crucial moments in the movie and their facial expressions were very realistic. The only character that seemed over the top was Leon S Kennedy, the guy with the pistol. Since he is the main character, he is fearless and pulls all of these stunts that would have otherwise killed him if he isn't the main character. This is also the only movie that actually relates to the game itself, the films portrayed by real actors makes absolutely no sense and those were terrible. I recommend you watch this thing.

Smallville

I began watching Smallville in 2001 when it first came out. It was pretty good. However over the years, the show kept twisting out of control more and more... the storyline doesn't even make sense anymore.

The original cast are these guys. Over the seasons, they took out Pete (existed in the DC comics), but kept Chloe (who didn't exist in the comics).


The cast kept changing because contracts were up and people didn't want to go on anymore.



How did they deal with the contract thing? They had to change the script according to the cast LOL.

1. Johnathan Kent - Clark's father. They killed him off. He died so that Clark can live. That certainly pissed off many fans because his dad was supposed to live on. This was probably the first drastic thing that happened. (Dies S5)
2. Pete was removed from the show, I forgot for what reason. (S3)
3. Lionel Luthor - he died because Lex pushed him off the building or something like that. (Happened in S7)
4. Lex Luthor - he dies in in a car explosion, detonated by the Green Arrow. What the hell... how can you kill off Superman's ultimate rival? Does that even make any sense at all? (S8)
5. Lana Lang - she somehow got all of Clark's powers but has to "run away" but she actually left the show. (S8)
6. Jimmy Olsen - they killed Jimmy Olsen, the reporter guy that always appears with Lois. (S8)

All and all, the show keeps killing off more important characters. It sickens me.
