Finally Rank One

Finally, after many many setbacks, I am rank one on East. After countless level decays for inactivity, after fighting countless maphacking douchebags, after all that bullshit, at last.

more classes

For some reason I feel that Baruch is more challenging/difficult than SBU by a lot. My classes require me to write a lot of essays and such, something I really am not fond of. It seems like my future will focus a lot on something I am not particular strong in (writing).

Whats going on?

I think I wrote about this problem in the past before, but it always seems to repeat itself so here it is again. As always, my mom criticizes "jook sing" kids for their lack of enthusiasm on Lunar New Years. She was really upset because she felt that she was handing out red envelops like it was her duty to stuff the money into kids hands. The tradition (or how it is supposed to be in China) is like this: kids would have to say good/fortunate/blessings to adults so they would in return, give them a red envelop. However, Chinese-American kids know nothing of such traditions, so the adults simply hand out the red envelops and the kids just take them, like the adults owe them or something. I know the tradition so I tried my best to say some stuff but I forgot most of the phrases.

Onward with the next agenda. Today I only had one class; ENG 2100. I have no idea why the evaluation people decided to not give me credit for WRT 101, which is the exact same thing. You sit in a class, read stuff, and write four essays. Been there, done that. But somehow I have to take this dumb class all over again. I went to the academic advisement center after class to see if I can get the class waived. No such luck.

As for the class itself, it is much better than what I had to go through in SBU. The professor is quite enthusiastic about what she does and so are the students. The class is pretty large for an ENG 2100 class because most people took it in the Fall already so they try to put everyone in packed classes. The class consists of a lot of transfer students as well as freshmen and ESL students. As for myself, I dont even know what I classified as... transfer or freshman?

Last One Standing

I've just finished watching Last One Standing (22 episodes). This was one of my most anticipated series of 2008. When I saw the cast I was pretty surprised that they got Roger Kwok to be the villain of the story. Usually Roger is the protagonist and I was very eager to see how something different from his usual roles. As for the storyline, it was quite riveting. I have to say... it is the most violent TVB series up to this day. I heard some of the fight scenes received numerous complaints from viewers lol because children watch this stuff as well.

The ending somewhat left me unsatisfied because of the cliffhanger and there is no news about a sequel to the show.

8.5/10

I finally did my schedule

Okay I did my schedule yesterday after my orientation on Tuesday. Orientation was long and tedious and I was disappointed that some of my credits didn't get accredited for. It was really difficult constructing my schedule because all the good classes are already full. I did a ton of research in the morning to see what class I should pick. I had to choose between risking having bad teachers or terrible time schedules. In the end I decided to not jeopardize my grades by going with bad professors so my schedule came out to be very scattered.

Graffiti Wall

Facebook Graffiti wall, one of the most valued applications on the site aside from videos...

Anyway I took like 5 hours to draw this with a mouse because I still dont have a pen tablet =(

Of course you can see the HD version of it and the replay of how it was drawn from the site, but you'd have to install the app first.

Finally finished watching Moonlight Resonance

I downloaded a crap load of TVB series during my stay in Stony Brook (abusing their fast internet connection OFC) but didnt have a chance to watch any of them because of school. First thing I did when I got back was to catch up on the most anticipated series of 2008, Moonlight Resonance. I knew that the show was going to be spectacular because its prequel, Heart of Greed, was the best series in 2007. Good thing the show did not disappoint, I think the ratings for MR exceeded even that of HoG.

I think the script for this series was absolutely phenomenal. Every episode was really intense, not one single episode was unimportant garbage that they try to drag on with, unlike a lot of other series they produce.

I give this series 10/10. It is a must watch if you like TVB series.

Finally won a BNet tournament

Up to this day, I have never won a single BNet tournament. Main reason in the past was because I wasnt good enough to win, or it was because there were too many hackers ruinning them. Well today I won my first tournament, and even better, a standard 1v1 tournament.

Facebook Graffiti Wall

I haven't drew anything in a long time... the last picture I drew was in back in high school before graduation (can't even remember the exact date). I decided to seek some inspiration and hell, I don't know who to draw it for haha.

No matter how I look at it, this is the best piece in my opinion. Anyway I'm off to create more artwork!

Random stuff

There is some virus going around the internet, or more frightening, on AIM. A friend of mine had a funny status so I asked her; "Why not click on X's link?" According to her, a friend of her friend sent her a link and she pressed on it. Somehow the link was a virus that took control over her AIM (or AIM Screen name). Now a bot or whatever is sending out more links using her friend's account. Another friend of mine got the same thing and keeps sending me retarded links. Good thing I found out about it before I saw it.

Today I took the COMPASS Math placement test (again). I don't think they sent me the results of the test I took for the fall term. Well anyway, when I walked in and the proctor was a total douchebag. His attitude was disgusting... he gave everyone who walked in an attitude and talked down upon them. When this girl pressed something wrong on the computer the asshole yelled at her. He yelled at me for pressing the start button ROFL. That guy was probably some scum who got picked on in life all the time and now get some authoritative position and was abusing it. Sad guy. Anyway the test was pretty ironic because you would think there were a lot of people that were my age but no. There a bunch of 30-40 year olds taking the test. I guess people are still trying to get their degrees after their X number of years in community colleges.

Computer trouble continued

It has been two days since I dropped my desktop at the Ave U place (chinese people) for repairs. They claimed they can fix anything and should be done on Sunday. It wasnt done until today. Secondly, they charge $75 to wipe out viruses. They claimed they did get rid of the virus, but explorer.exe was corrupt and no longer function properly. So they told me they have to reformat the damn thing. So they asked me if I wanted to backup any information on my computer. Of course I wanted to back stuff up... that was the whole point of trying to get rid of the virus instead of reformatting the whole thing... hell I coulda done it myself had I known these incompetent jackasses were just going to reformat it in the end. So the story is, I wasted $75 and two days on something I could've done myself. How wonderful is that...

Yearbook

I was pretty bored a while ago... my desktop is still in the tech shop for repair. I decided to dig up my yearbook and take a careful look at it once again. Our yearbook is really lacking in comparison to some of the other schools'. I dont think I have any right to complain about it because I wasnt part of designing the thing (although if I was, it wouldnt be so bad). But looking at it made me kind of sad because I wasnt involved enough in the school. There were a billion clubs I never heard of that had group pictures... lol Mr. Hero was in like five of them.

Midwood's yearbook is pretty bad ... the cover looks like it was drawn by some fifth grader, the picture that supposed to have everyone ... didnt have everyone, the portraits were horrible. There was a section in which close friends can pay $100 to have their very own page(s) in the yearbook. I know my friends were supposed to get two pages but the school ripped them off and gave them only half a page... so half of them were cut out.

And lastly some of the comments left by my peers were somewhat lame. Most people didnt know what to say so they wrote something short and poorly thought out. Only those who were really close to me wrote something meaningful. I tried my best to write something personal for everyone who I wrote in.

Desktop caught a virus

Alright today my desktop caught a virus of some sort that finally made it to stop functioning. Usually when there is a virus it's not that big of a deal because the antivirus can just quarantine or delete it. This time is different. I was on Crunchyroll.com browsing what series they have and it suddenly redirected me to some weird site that ended in a .pdf extension. I felt tremendous lag time and thought the computer froze. Acrobat Reader started up and immediately Avira popped up with like three different Trojans asking me what to do. I pressed deny access for all of them and AVG popped up as well. I pressed heal... big mistake. After that, I thought it was no problem and I went to eat breakfast.

When I came back my desktop was gone. All that was on the screen was my wallpaper. I can press CTRL ALT DEL and start Task Manager but I couldnt get explorer.exe to work. I tried to enter into safe mode to back up my files but that didnt work either. I called Geek Squad and they connected me to some Indian technician. That was the first time I've seen outsourcing come into play. The Indian technician with his heavy accent told me I had a virus after I told him the symptoms. As if I didnt already know I have a virus... The price for fixing the damn thing was $99 from their company.

I decided to take the damn thing to Ave U and get it fixed ASAP. They charged me $75 for ridding the virus. I really dislike those people who repair computers for a living. They are probably the people who program the viruses in the first place so they have a business. How else do viruses spawn?

Anyway, I warn everyone against going to CrunchyRoll from now on. This wasnt the first time they redirected me to some other site, this time was worse than the last.

some thoughts

College is the final step before the adult world. A friend of mine didn't want to enter the adult world, fearing having to grow up. I think it's normal to think that way, I've often reminisce about childhood and wish things were as simple as when I was a kid. But a part of me always knew that it was only inevitable and I had to take responsibilty anyway, so I'm one of those kids who grew up really fast.

What is college to others? What is college to me? To many, it's the time of their lives when they can do whatever they want, because once this stage has passed, it will be nonstop work. To me, it's a test of how much willpower I can muster... sort of a test of what I am capable of doing after college.

A friend of mine said that I should enjoy winter break because once college is over, we will never get breaks. Breaks become vacations... vacations that we have to pay ourselves, and lose money in the process by not working. I've never looked forward to breaks before because I have nothing better to do at home... but after pondering what he said, I feel that it just goes down hill from here.
